In 2008, the value of AHEC members' hardwood exports to China dropped 15% from one year earlier. This year will be a tough year for the market, said Michael Snow, executive director of AHEC, adding that a turnaround is likely to appear next year.
U.S. lumber exported to China increased 73% in January from one month earlier. However, exports to China are still 6% lower than in the previous year. As for the Chinese domestic market, furniture consumers are likely to spend less amid the weak property market.
